PRIMARY PURPOSE:  This internship will be performing synthesis in an exciting arena with a strong interaction with an expert chemist. Specifically, the intern will assist in the synthesis of fluorescent probe compounds to support Target Engagement technologies. Under supervision, this intern will perform laboratory experiments, tasks, and associated paperwork as assigned. May present experimental results to individuals and groups.  Generally assist in the operations and maintenance of the laboratory.   QUALIFICATIONS:   Working towards BS degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry We would expect that the intern has been exposed to at least two semesters of organic chemistry in a classroom setting, with some concomitant experience at the bench doing synthesis. An extensive level of bench work is not imperative. Some exposure to analytical chemistry a plus!   ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:    - Perform routine laboratory tasks assigned by supervisor using basic organic chemistry research techniques. - Perform and monitor chemical reactions - Process and purify reaction products using standard laboratory techniques. - Characterize reaction products using standard analytical tools, such as NMR Spectroscopy, IR, Spectrometry, and Mass Spectrometry - Responsible for accurate scientific research documentation of test procedures and results, and explanation of process to supervisor. - Maintain laboratory area according to established company/ department practices. - Perform all laboratory assignments in accordance with established safety procedures in assigned laboratory or work area. - Maintain adequate laboratory supplies to ensure laboratory assignments are accomplished efficiently. - Understand and comply with all elements of the PBI quality system outlined for this position - All employees must complete assigned duties in a safe manner, thoroughly familiarizing themselves with safety concerns, such as reading safety data sheets, wearing necessary protective clothing, including safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, respirators, etc. All employees are required to attend regularly scheduled safety meetings. Requires corrected vision for near (within 20 cm) and far (greater than 3 m) activities.   WORK ENVIRONMENT:    The primary work areas are the laboratories.  In some areas there is the possibility of minimal exposure to chemical vapors that are used in the production and analysis of products.  Exposure will be below OSHA permissible exposure levels. JOB OBJECTIVE: To ensure the secure operation of the business computing systems and applications by creating, implementing and enforcing security policies and tools. This individual will actively communicate and be engaged with key business process owners to integrate security controls into critical business processes. Primary responsibilities will include management of security related projects, architecting security solutions, defining security standards, patching processes; vulnerability scanning of applications and systems; defining security metrics and reporting; embedding security into the daily work processes of all staff and systems; operational oversight of key security processes, compliance with required standards and regulations and supporting all other information security related duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Develop a comprehensive enterprise information security, IT risk and compliance management program. Establish and implement information security standards and policies. Drive initiatives to mitigate cyber risks, strengthen security controls and reduce enterprise vulnerabilities. 2. Determine security requirements for applications, systems and business processes based upon generally accepted risk analysis methods considering functional and performance requirements, information security architecture principles, and security best practices. 3. Architect and improve system and application security. Lead IT-system designs by providing security requirements and perspective during the requirements and initial build phases. 4. Develop roadmaps for all enterprise security technologies. This includes but is not limited to SIEM, anti-virus, firewalls, proxies, IDS/IPS, and encryption technologies. 5. Help create and maintain information security metrics across all security domains. Provide information security metric reporting on a regular basis. Perform root cause analysis and recommend and implement continuous improvements based on the results of such metrics. 6. Manage regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions and or anomalies. 7. Manage internal network and application security assessments, including, but not limited to architecture/design review. 8. Coordinate, schedule and manage periodic third-party security audits and penetration testing. 9. Oversee and manage identity and access management. 10. Manage the information security incident response program. Coordinate organizational efforts in response to security events. 11. Keep pace with industry trend and best practices. Evaluate, test and propose emerging information security technologies. 12. Respond to customer and third-party requests regarding the company’s security policies and procedures. 13. Understand and comply with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business. MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS: 1. 12+ years of relevant experience in IT Operations, Applications, or IT Security. 2. 8+ years of experience in a progressive information security role. 3. CISSP certification holder (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or other equivalent certification strongly preferred. 4. Experience in the Life Science, Health Care, manufacturing or other regulated services industry strongly preferred. 5. Broad technical knowledge and extensive knowledge of current and upcoming IT security technologies and techniques that cover all levels of IT architecture. 6. Technical understanding of enterprise infrastructure including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDPS), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, etc. 7. Ability to create and modify scripts using Perl, batch, PowerShell and VB. 8. Ability to develop, review and/or audit security policy. 9. Experience with contract reviews, vendor and product selections, performing or facilitating enterprise risk assessments, supporting audits/assessments related to FDSA, PCI-DSS, FFIEC, and SOX. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 2. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. 3. Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in understandable business terms. 4. Develop and execute robust territory- and account-based marketing strategies in collaboration with corporate and field sales for assigned territories. 2. Leverage data analysis and market research to find and target customers and accounts. Use data and research to increase account penetration with specific messaging. 3. Analyze sales and marketing performance data and track KPIs. 4. Assess lead flow and market data to identify which geographies, segments or accounts need focused attention. 5. Efforts should focus on Promega’s highest value/newest products addressing client’s highest areas of unmet need. 2. Select and prioritize client engagements towards discussions on key initiatives where Promega has or is developing a market leading position (i.e. Immunoassays, Kinase Biology, Protein Degradation, etc.). 3. Develop and share regular updates to the Life Science SBU Leadership, Marketing, Field Sales, and Global Branch Leadership on key initiatives, voice of the customer, and opportunities to introduce Promega technologies and products into high value adjacent markets. 4. Develop and implement a field-based plan working with both Field and Inside Sales for penetration into new clients, markets and/or geographies. The Strategic Collaborations Manager will often take a leadership role as the technical lead and/or subject matter expert to support Field Sales penetration into key accounts and likely adopters of new technologies and applications. 5. Effectively interface with multiple internal functions including Strategic Business Units, R&D, Branches, Global Sales, Business Management, Operations, Finance and the Services Management team. 6. Collaborate with these internal stakeholders to support go-to-market strategies and new product commercialization. 7. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business. OCCASIONAL DUTIES: 1. Occasionally represent Promega at conferences, shows, workshops and seminars locally, regionally or nationally, as necessary. 2. Other duties as assigned. MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience. 2. Advanced in-depth knowledge of Pharma/Biotech/Biopharmaceutical businesses, CROs, Academic Discovery Centers, Incubators, competitors, industry practices and functional knowledge of strategic business planning. 3. Minimum 10 years experience in executive selling, business development, market development, life science reagent sales, product development or field technical support, with 3 years in a leadership position. 4. Strong scientific and technical knowledge of target class biology (Kinases, GPCR’s, Nuclear Receptors, Ion Channels etc.), discovery workflows and relevant assay technologies and platforms. 5. Strong scientific and technical knowledge of the Biologics workflow including bioassays, bioanalysis, antibody purification, antibody screening, and Biologics characterization. 6. Proven ability to respond to new business opportunities, often lacking shape, respond with systematic, analytically derived solutions, and effectively lead teams in the setting and achieving of project plans that result in high levels of customer satisfaction. 7. Strong relationships with decision makers in both senior and bench-level positions across the global Pharma and Biotech market segment. 8. Strong relationships with decision makers in both senior and bench-level positions in US and EU biotech incubators, academic screening centers and key CROs in the US, EU and/or Asia. 9. Ability to work within diverse and cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. This role requires collaboration across functional areas and departments to realize business goals. This individual will be expected to drive consensus and facilitate decision making. 10. Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills. Strong analytical, problem solving and planning skills. Relentless prioritization and ‘can do’ attitude. Maintain self-awareness of how behaviors can affect colleagues. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Develop and implement, with the Strategic Business Units, Branches and global Sales organization, programmatic relationships and agreements with a select number of strategic accounts globally. The collaborations will be managed at high-levels in our clients' therapeutic groups and other drug discovery and development units and will apply a mix of catalog and custom solutions. 2. Familiarity with competitive products for the purpose of educating customers on the benefits of Promega applications and platform technologies. Maintain awareness of competitive products and report important activities (technical developments, trends within key accounts, seminars, training sessions, etc.) back to relevant Promega stakeholders. 3. Experience and confidence to converse with a broad scientific and technical audience including internal customers (e.g. project teams, global branches, senior management) and external customers (e.g. bench scientists, lab managers, KOLs, business partners).
