  • Job Description


    We are looking for a part-time R&D technician responsible for supporting 14 R&D chemists with general laboratory hygiene.  This includes cleaning benches, and equipment, re-labeling and re-stocking chemicals and equipment. Following safety procedures will assist researchers with basic organization and maintenance of the lab areas such as making buffers, filling solvent bottles, etc.  Will perform light support duties that cannot be completed by the general facilities staff. This person may also assist other departments with their lab hygiene.


    Work hours will be 15 hours per week, M-F between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Schedule is flexible. Proposed start date is between April 30 and May 7, 2018.


    Required Qualifications:


    • Must have completed Organic Chemistry series
    • Must have ability to recognize chemical structures and understand chemical properties of materials used in the labs. 


    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Chemistry major preferred
    • Experience working in an organic chemistry lab


     Essential Responsiblities: 

    1. Clean and organize lab benches, work areas, and small scale lab apparatus
    1. Fill solvent bottles and make buffers
    1. Label and stock chemicals and equipment
    1. Assist with hazardous waste activities
    1. Complete lab-related housekeeping duties that cannot be completed by general facilities staff.
    1. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
    2. All employees must complete assigned duties in a safe manner, thoroughly familiarizing themselves with safety concerns, such as reading safety data sheets, wearing necessary protective clothing, including safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, respirators, etc. All employees are required to attend regularly scheduled safety meetings. Responsible for monitoring safety practices of assigned area.

    Occasional Duties:

    Assist with basic chemical testing

    Physical Demands: 

    • Must be able to move about and walk frequently throughout the laboratory area including climbing stairs.
    • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or more occasionally throughout the shift. 
    • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, push and pull objects. 
    • Must be able to read and understand labels, procedures, SDS’s, and distinguish colors. 
    • Must have good hand, arm and finger dexterity.
    • Requires corrected vision for near (within 20 cm) and far (greater than 3 m) activities.


    Work Environment:

    The primary work areas are the laboratories.  In some areas there is the possibility of minimal exposure to chemical vapors that are used in the production and analysis of products.  Exposure will be below OSHA permissible exposure levels. Appropriate personal protection equipment will be provided per company policy including gloves, safety glasses, lab coat, respirator, etc.
