Job Description

We are seeking an Analytical Research Assistant to join our dynamic Analytical Services team. The group is responsible for executing analytical procedures in the testing for structural determination and purity of in-process and finished products in support of manufacturing.


A successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related lab science with 0-2 years of experience in an analytical lab using advanced equipment and techniques.
  • Must have very high level of attention to detail.
  • A comfort level in "looking under the hood" to maximize instrument operation.
  • Ability to organize work to keep several projects moving forward by managing priorities and follow-up.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and technical.


Essential Responsibilities:


1. Perform analytical testing of raw materials, in-process and finished goods according to written test methods and procedures.

2. Evaluate and interpret results from analytical instruments, such as NMR, HPLC, Spectrophotometers and Luminometers.

3. Operate all laboratory equipment and investigate equipment, process and product related issues

4. Calibrate analytical instruments and perform routine maintenance


5. Recommend laboratory supplies.


6. Be able to work in a team environment.


7. Understand and comply with all elements of the PBI quality system appropriate for this position.


8. All employees must complete assigned duties in a safe manner, thoroughly familiarizing themselves with safety concerns, such as reading safety data sheets, wearing necessary protective clothing, including safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, respirators, etc. All employees are required to attend regularly scheduled safety meetings. Responsible for monitoring safety practices of assigned area.


Mental Aptitudes:

  • Reading: Must have college level reading and comprehension skill, with the ability to review and understand technical documents.
  • Writing: Must have strong writing ability and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Math: Must have college level math skills, including algebra and statistics, ability to solve problems based on proportions calculation.
  • Other: Must possess a very high level of attention to detail and utilize scientific thought and critical thinking in a laboratory setting.  Able to organize work to keep several projects moving forward through managing priorities and follow-up.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to move and walk frequently throughout the laboratory area, including climbing stairs.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, push and pull objects.
  • Ability to read and understand labels, procedures, Safety Data Sheets, and distinguish colors.
