Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVE: Performs a wide variety of electro-mechanical assembly operations, mechanical alignment and testing of instrument. Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable harnessing on assembly units. Makes setups and adjustments holding tolerances to blueprint specifications. Has substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks. Performs final instrument testing. Identifies and participates in improvements to manufactured products and processes.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Independently produces high quality complex electro-mechanical optical instruments including mechanical assembly, alignment of motors, gears and optical components using custom fixtures, basic hand tools and soldering. Must be cross trained to independently produce at least 80% of the instruments types manufactured.

2. Performing first level of detailed troubleshooting and resolutions to manufacturing and design issues of electro-mechanical optical sub-assemblies and instrument systems.

3. Assures system and product quality by testing finished product and system capabilities to confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.

4. Identifies opportunities for operational improvements. May participate on a project team and/or process improvement to achieve overall company objectives for cost, quality, delivery and safety. May assist in implementing operational improvements.

5. Provides Design for Manufacturability feedback to engineering team.

6. Coordinates with other functions to resolve manufacturing problems and develop product design improvements.

7. Provides effective training to Electro-Mechanical Assemblers, new and/or project employees.

8. Reports material discrepancies to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

9. Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.

10. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.


OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

1. Utilizes various mechanical and electrical test equipment.

2. Participate or lead technical documentation review and development process.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. Minimum of 3-5 years production manufacturing / instrumentation assembly related experience including technical and operational manufacturing process details.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the fabrication of electro-mechanical components and assemblies.

4.Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, have strong attention to detail, be a problem solver and solution oriented.

5. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to communicate correctly and communicate problems and issues in a clear and concise manner.

6. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple projects.

7. Demonstrated ability to work independently with moderate supervision and with other team members in a cooperative manner.

8. Demonstrated ability to be highly flexibility and adaptability.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience with medical device or instrumentation production manufacturing assembly.

2. Solid knowledge of equipment, systems and techniques appropriate to debugging mechanical and electrical systems.

3. Experience in electro-mechanical testing.

4. Experience / knowledge of Lean Manufacturing process and associated tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to occasionally move objects ranging in weight up to 70 pounds up to one hour per day and perform building related construction and maintenance work.

2. Standing for long periods, kneeling, crouching, etc.

3. Fine motor skills for long periods to assemble delicate components.

4. Good vision for fine inspection of units.

5. Ability to work in areas of limited space.

6. Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, lab coats, etc.
