Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, professional level Master Scheduler to join our Production team in our San Luis Obispo facility.

 

The Master Scheduler is responsible for maximizing use of manufacturing resources including labor, equipment and space. Utilizing demand plan and inventory control, will decide efficient scheduling of manufactured products to assure timely delivery of finished products. Evaluates various long term demand scenarios to highlight potential capacity constraints. Responsible for production order lifecycle process in the ERP system for accuracy of data and clear communication of production plan. Determines effective tools for scheduling, reporting and communication of production schedule. Interfaces with Production, Materials, Quality Control, Process Development and Finance to review status, prioritize process orders and provide input into other scheduling issues.

 

This is a full-time, exempt position.

 

A successful candidate will demonstrate: 

  1. BS degree in business, IT, or science field; AA in supply chain management or similar; or equivalent experience.
  2. 3 to 5 years of experience in planning and/or scheduling in a low volume, high diversity process manufacturing environment, using widely available scheduling software. 
  3. Solid knowledge and understanding of manufacturing systems, e.g., MRP, ERP & Inventory Control (SAP preferred)
  4. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in rapidly changing environment
  5. Clear and concise written and oral communications. Listens carefully. Keeps others appropriately informed. 
  6. Excellent organization skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
  7. High proficiency in data analysis, including report writing, Excel, Word and Power Point
  8. Proven ability to work in a team environment and share schedule issues clearly with all levels of management
  9. Ability to problem solve, identify root causes and develop/implement effective alternatives. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. APICS certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
  2. Chemical or related science background
  3. Experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment
  4. Experience working in an ISO9001 or other recognized quality system
     

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate Master Production Schedules based on demand plan which takes the following into consideration: capacity constraints, potential bottlenecks, all lead times, raw material availability, equipment, staffing and quality system requirements.
  • Monitor production schedule to ensure inventory target dates can be met.  Will report status at weekly Planning meeting and highlight any challenges.
  • Create and maintain electronic scheduling tool.
  • Assures all parameters which feed into capacity planning are accurate.
  • In conjunction with the Manufacturing Manager, oversee ERP production order process.
  • Provide appropriate recommendations to Manufacturing Manager for making changes to processes or capacity as needed.
  • Design and implement new analyses and reporting processes as requested.
  • Involved in new product introduction and product changes, in both scheduling pilot batches or other Manufacturing support of product development, and evaluating potential capacity constraints of transferring the new product to manufacturing.
  • Based on future demand scenarios, provide analysis of any capacity constraints.
  • Frequently interacts with supervisors, customers, and functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas both intra and inter company.
  • Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
  • All employees must complete assigned duties in a safe manner, thoroughly familiarizing themselves with safety concerns, such as wearing necessary protective clothing, including safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, etc.  All employees are required to attend regularly scheduled safety and hazard communication meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The employee must occasionally lift, carry, or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a production environment around automated equipment.
  • Ability to work in an office environment utilizing a computer workstation.
  • Manual dexterity and sensory capabilities to read printed data.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including protective eyewear/goggles, face shield, respirators, lab coats, aprons, protective gloves, safety shoes, or other PPE as required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

 

The primary work areas are general offices and warehouses, and occasionally laboratory areas.
